|22 1/2" x 18 1/2" overall, the visible portion of the document is approximately 17" x 13". It has been recently matted and mounted on an acid free backing, I have not had it out of the frame. The grain painted over gesso frame and glass are period to the document and are in very good condition with very minor wear only. The document itself is in excellent condition with no tears or repairs; there is evidence of folding and or rolling and minimal foxing only. The ribbon remains but the wax seal is missing. The banner at the top reads:|
|"To the Fraternity, Peace and Good Fellowship"
Partial text of left side is as follows: "Asa Ware, to whom we have granted these letters, was admitted to the third degree of Masonry in St. Albans Lodge on the 23rd of Aug., A.L. 5820. etc. etc...... at Wrentham this first day of February A.D. 23. Joseph Torry, Secy." The text on the right is the same, but in Latin, and the dates are in Roman Numerals.
The columns are signed by the Wardens of the lodge: "Amos Cobb J.W." and "Trenton Pond S.W."
|The lower portion reads: "Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, M.W. John Dixwell M.D. Grand Master. Be it known, that St. Albans Lodge in Wrentham U.S. of America, is under our jurisdiction; and that full faith may be given to its Masonic Acts. Given at Boston this first day of October A.L. 5822. Thomas Powers Grand Secy.
The printer's line is: "Drawn by Penniman & Mills" - "Engraved by Annin & Smith, Boston. 72 Court St."
My transcription of all of the above mentioned signatures and printer's line are a "best guess" only, and should be taken as such.
